A Summer Song (Chad & Jeremy, 1964). Live performance by Bill Sharkey, Home Studio, Hawaii Kai, HI.
2025-10-26. "Keeping the Oldies & Classics Alive"

"A Summer Song," written by Clive Metcalfe, Keith Nobel and Chad Stuart, was Chad and Jeremy's second and highest charting single in the USA rising to the no. 7 position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1964 (Whitburn, 2013). "The catalysts for 'A Summer Song' were Clive Metcalfe and Keith Noble, a pair of songwriters who knew [Chad] Stuart and [Jeremy] Clyde. They performed the song-in-progress at a club one night. Stuart liked what he heard, and he added his own input to the track before he recorded it with Clyde" (J.Beviglia, americansongwriter, Jan. 11, 2025 ).

Lyrics:

Trees swayin' in the summer breeze
Showin' off their silver leaves
As we walked by

Soft kisses on a summer's day
Laughing all our cares away
Just you and I

Sweet sleepy warmth of summer nights
Gazing at the distant lights
In the starry sky

They say that all good things must end some day
Autumn leaves must fall
But don't you know that it hurts me so
To say goodbye to you
Wish you didn't have to go
No no no no

When the rain
Beats against my window pane
I'll think of summer days again
And dream of you

They say that all good things must end some day
Autumn leaves must fall
But don't you know that it hurts me so
To say goodbye to you
Wish you didn't have to go
No no no no

When the rain
Beats against my window pane
I'll think of summer days again
And dream of you
And dream of you
