I just saw the footage and heard the reports: Emiru was assaulted on stage at TwitchCon, just hours into the event. A random fan walked past security, grabbed her, tried to kiss or grab her neck without asking. It took security 4 seconds from first contact to remove him—but here’s the real problem: they let him go free, no arrest, no handoff to police. And get this — she had been told she couldn’t bring her own private security to the event, even in past cons. That’s outrageous.
4 seconds is ridiculous—any delay is dangerous. Someone shouldn’t get that close in the first place.
Security intervened, but letting the attacker vanish with zero consequences sends a message: creators can be grabbed and nothing happens.
The person must be detained, investigated, prosecuted. No excuses.
Emiru previously disclosed her private security was banned after intervening in a previous stalking incident.
That means the organization would rather control appearances than ensure personal safety.
As the platform and event organizer, Twitch must guarantee safety. They can’t put top creators in harm’s way.
Their “security planning” statements (if any) are hollow if they let attacks happen.
They need pre-event screening, backstage security zones, personal security allowances, rapid intervention teams, and incident protocols.
Attacks like this grow out of entitlement, idol worship, and blurred boundaries. Twitch and cons have to counter that with firm policies.
Women creators often bear the brunt of harassment and assault. If Twitch doesn’t prioritize their safety, they alienate a vulnerable base.
Twitch must publish a detailed incident report: who intervened, who contacted police, what follow-up steps they’re doing.
Con attendees deserve security standards: no backstage access without checks, no unscreened fans near creators.
TwitchCon should consider refunding insecure attendee spots or delaying further events until safety is reformed.
