I just watched the new wave of coverage about Emiru being assaulted at TwitchCon 2025—and I’m furious. This wasn’t a random moment; it was a preventable failure. A fan walked onto stage, grabbed Emiru without consent, tried to kiss her neck—and while security did intervene, the attacker apparently walked away with minimal consequences. Even more disturbing: Emiru revealed her preferred private security guard had been banned from the event earlier despite protecting her in prior incidents.

“Preventable” not “unfortunate” — Security shouldn’t just react in seconds, it should prevent. If an attendee can reach the stage and physically grab a streamer, the entire screening or barrier system is broken.

Attacker removed but not prosecuted — The narrative that “we removed the person” isn’t enough when they apparently weren’t handed to law enforcement. That undermines deterrence.

Banning her own guard while attacker walked away — If your preferred security detail is banned but random attendees can approach her unscreened, the system is backwards and creator risk is ignored.

Leadership tone deafness — Dan Clancy and Twitch statements emphasize “we care deeply,” but creators like Emiru, Tectone and others say the action doesn’t match the words. That disconnect erodes trust.

Creators are still expected to show up despite risk — Contractual obligations (meet-and-greets, photo ops) are still made while safety promises fall behind. That’s exploitative if you ask me.

Call for structural reform, not just reaction — This isn’t about one event or one attacker. It’s about platform responsibility, event design, creator rights, and viewer trust.

Viewer & creator stakes are high — When someone with millions of followers still fears attending a convention, imagine what the system looks like for smaller creators. This is about the industry’s future.
