I just watched Decoy Voice’s video “Portland is F*cked,” and there’s a real reason for concern. In Portland, right now, it looks like the police are protecting the rioters, while arresting or intimidating the peaceful counter-protesters. Antifa is acting without major consequence, and police surveillance and secret-source tactics seem aimed at the “wrong side.”

The role of PPB is to enforce law and protect all civilians. If arrests are disproportionately targeting those who oppose Antifa while assault claims by Antifa go unchecked, that’s a failure of mission.
The investigation by the federal government into PPB’s handling of ICE protests shows there’s serious concern.
When a protest movement claims justice but uses violence, intimidation, and attacks journalists or peaceful rivals, it becomes part of the problem. The incident with the journalist being hit by a flagpole highlights this.
Violence should be condemned irrespective of political leaning.
If counter-protesters are being arrested or penalised while those aligned with Antifa are free to act, you have a double standard that erodes public trust and democratic legitimacy.
Use of confidential sources in protest enforcement (CRSs) without transparency raises concerns about disproportionate targeting.
Citizens should demand body-cam footage, arrest data by group affiliation, and independent review of police protest tactics.
For creators and citizens attending events or protests, knowing the police may not protect you equally depending on your ideological side is a chilling message.
The stability of civic space depends on consistent application of law.
