College Advisor Kills His Girlfriend And Newborn Baby Before Setting Their Apartment On Fire

Posted • October 28, 2025: Man accused of killing his 29-year-old girlfriend and newborn son before setting their apartment on fire. Prosecutors say 30-year-old Kidane Haile strangled Kathleen Carrig and then set their apartment on fire. Firefighters rescued Haile, Carrig, and her infant, Noah Carrig, from the burning home. Both Carrig and her baby were pronounced dead at the scene. The baby’s cause of death is still under investigation. Haile is charged with second-degree m*rder and pleaded not guilty. Haile is being held without bail at the Erie County Holding Center.
