Driver Hospitalized After Flipping Vehicle, GOODRICH, October 28, 2025 - At approximately 10:50 am on October 28, 2025, a maroon 2020 Kia Sorento, was east-bound on FM-1988 East. Initially, the driver left the pavement to the left, overcorrected right, and left the pavement on the right side into the grass. Her vehicle rolled and came to rest upside down facing west at the woodline. The driver, Kathryn Allen, 67, of Shepherd was trapped in her upside down vehicle. Corporal Branden Sanford, with The Polk County Sheriff's Office, was the first emergency responder on the scene. Corporal Sanford managed to get a back door open, and crawl into the vehicle. Allen was strapped in by her seatbelt. Sanford cut the seatbelt and very carefully took her out of the upside down position she was in and carefully worked Allen out of the vehicle. EMS personnel from Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene and along with Deputy Dillon Dickerson with The Polk County Sheriff's Office, and Troopers Corporal Ramey Bass and Sergeant Ethan McAdoo with The Texas Highway Patrol. Allen was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries. Traffic on 1988 was blocked during vehicle recovery. Allen's vehicle was recovered by Smith Towing out of Livingston. This accident remains under investigation by The Texas Highway Patrol.
