Chapter Summary and Overview:

Revelation chapter 10 describes a powerful angel with a small, open scroll who stands with one foot on the sea and the other on the land. This angel announces that the "mystery of God" will be fulfilled when the seventh trumpet sounds, and he instructs John to eat the scroll, which is sweet to his taste but bitter in his stomach. The chapter also includes the thunders' voices, which are not to be recorded, emphasizing that some of God's plans are not for humans to know.

The thunders and the sealed message

The angel cries out with a voice like a roaring lion.

Seven thunders respond, but John is told by a voice from heaven to "seal up what the seven thunders have said" and not to write it down.

This signifies that some of God's plans are a mystery and not yet revealed to humanity.

"No more delay" and the prophecy

The angel swears an oath that "there will be no more delay," and the "mystery of God will be fulfilled" in the days of the seventh angel's trumpet call.

John is commanded to take the scroll and eat it, which represents internalizing God's message.

The scroll is sweet to eat but becomes bitter in his stomach, symbolizing that God's word is both a joy and a sorrowful burden to bear.

John is then instructed to prophesy again about "many peoples, nations, languages, and kings".
