🔭 The Origins & Accuracy of Sumerian Astrology | Sidereal vs. Tropical Astrology

Sumerian Astrology dates back to at least 3100 BCE and originally featured an 18-constellation sidereal zodiac. This ancient system was later adopted by the Babylonians, who reduced it to 12 zodiac signs—the same ones still used today by Tropical Astrology and Vedic Astrology (Jyotish).

Sidereal Astrology (True Sky Astrology) follows the actual positions of the planets in the constellations, unlike Tropical Astrology, which fixes the spring equinox at 0° Aries. Due to precession, the vernal point hasn’t aligned with Aries for over 2,000 years, making the tropical zodiac 23° off from the real sky.

For over 4,000 years, Sumerian and Babylonian Astrology provided highly accurate horoscopes and forecasts. However, when Babylonian astrology was adopted by the Greeks, they introduced elements, modalities, and an erroneous planetary rulership system. These later distortions remain widespread in modern astrology and heavily influenced Jyotish (Vedic Astrology).
