The Red House, 1947

Since her parents abandoned her when she was a newborn, Pete and Ellen Morgan have reared Meg as their own. As a teenager, Meg persuades her friend Nath Storm to assist with agricultural tasks because Pete is having trouble moving around on his artificial leg. Pete gets upset when Nath insists on taking a shortcut home through the woods and alerts him to the dangers of the red house. Meg and Nath ignore his cautions out of curiosity and start exploring. Nath's girlfriend, Tibby Rinton, has other ideas for him, but Meg begins to fall in love with him. As this is going on, they are all getting closer to actual danger and the sinister secret of the Red House
