Sudan’s civil war has taken a darker turn as the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) seize control of El Fasher, the last major army stronghold in Darfur. Reports allege over 2,000 civilians — mostly women, children, and the elderly — were executed after the city’s fall. El Fasher, long under RSF siege, was a key military and humanitarian hub, home to over a million trapped residents. The RSF, which evolved from the Janjaweed militias behind the 2000s Darfur genocide, is accused of targeting non-Arab communities. The UN and world powers have condemned what they call ethnically motivated atrocities.
