Why FBA's Are NOT African American!?

📖 Description

Welcome back to Blacklogic — where we separate truth from branding.

Tonight we break down the real difference between Foundational Black Americans (FBAs) and the broad label “African American.”
FBA is a lineage formed through ethnogenesis on U.S. soil—enslavement, resistance, Reconstruction, Jim Crow, redlining, cultural creation, and the civil-rights/rights-expansion our ancestors fought for. By contrast, “African American” is a national label any immigrant from Africa (or anyone with African ancestry who naturalizes) can adopt after citizenship—whether that’s a dark-skinned Ghanaian or a white South African like Elon Musk.

We trace the term “African American,” how it was popularized in 1988 (Jesse Jackson) and used widely in the 1990s—then show how the catch-all label has been co-opted to dilute lineage-specific claims like reparations. We compare identities across the diaspora (Jamaicans, Trinidadians, Belizeans, Puerto Ricans, Brazilians) and explain ethnogenesis—how distinct peoples emerge from unique histories. We also unpack tether behavior (see Blacklogic definition): when some immigrants align with colonial or U.S. anti-FBA narratives to undermine lineage claims while benefiting from FBA wins (HBCUs, civil-rights law, minority contracting, cultural capital).

This is not about hate. It’s about precision, policy, and protection of a distinct people.
