How To Be A Hero In An Upside Down World | The Symbolic World

Jonathan Pageau examines a scene in The Dark Knight to illustrate the intentions of the classical sovereign hero.

The 3 Key Traits:

1) Acting to help, not destroy others

2) Not acting to gain power for oneself or an ideology

3) Willing to Self-Sacrifice

These Old World values are most famously found in the often misrepresented story of Christ and the temple money changers.

The restoration of the temple's sanctity was not done as revolutionary act to overthrow the existing order, but to assert the divine order for its own sake, regardless of the cost.

In a world of endless revolutions, the ruling class are adept at fomenting desires for violence behind ideologies, then simply initiating a purity spiral that puts the instigators on the other side of the sword, and their original agenda is revealed by the resulting leadership.

The 3 axioms above are the time-honoured test of whether one is noble or just another useful idiot.
