Hello my Knight's and Knightie's welcome to the 15th episode of Midknight Expressions.
This week's video is a bio from my first album, Somber Moon. This hippyish song titled, Joanna Sunshine, is its second release.
I have completed recording the acoustic version of what will be my third release from, The Madman. The song title is, Fire Dancers.
I have also started the Bio of what will be my third release from, Anger Management. This mouthy song is titled Last Word. More on these products next week.
This week's review is about an author who most people have never heard of. However he is worth taking a look at if you are interested in Australia during the 1930-50’s and like mystery and crime.
His name is Arthur W. Upfield and his creation of D,I, Napoleon Bonaparte.

Arthur William Upfield (1 September 1890 – 12 February 1964) was an English-Australian writer, best known for his works of detective fiction featuring Detective Inspector Napoleon "Bony" Bonaparte of the Queensland Police Force, a mixed-race Indigenous Australian. His books were the basis for a 1970s Australian television series entitled Boney, as well as a 1990 telemovie and a 1992 spin-off TV series. See Wikipedia for more in-depth knowledge
Upfield has written many works like, The Gripped by Drought, and the Great Melbourne Cup Mystery, A Royal Abduction. He is most known for his character Detective Inspector Napoleon Bonaparte, Bony to his friends.
Who is a half cast being half Aboriginal and half white. A man of two very different worlds.
I am a fan of detective novels like Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur and Colin Doyle and Hercule Perrot by Agatha Christie, CSI, along with many others.
Bony is very different from manny. For one unlike most detectives who are constantly chasing leads and clues. Bony waits for the information to come to him. He often disguises himself as a farm hand, stockman, even someone on holiday. Befriending and enlisting locals to assist him with his investigation. Only revealing his true identity to a select few or near the end of the case.
The Outback is his crime lad that he is a master of. With intellectual observations and patient deduction Bony unravels any mystery.
Upfield’s works are majestic and a pleasure to enjoy. He writes with love from experience about a country that became his home. Before he became a full time writer he traveled all across Australia. Working many different jobs.
His inspiration for Bony came from a half cast tracker Upfield met. Known as “Tracker Leon.” Though no knowing record exists of him. There are 29 wonderful stories centered around Bony
Upfield served in the military during WW1. He was a member of the Australian Geological Society. He led scientific expeditions. His intellect inspired an actual murderer and gave evidence in what is known as, “Murchison Murders.” He was the first Australian to be inducted into MWA, Mystery Writers of America.
Above all, he was a vivid storyteller. His dickpicktation of the time period, cultural interactions, and the land he loved are captivating.
His representation of people for all ages to background and culture I find genuine. A true taste of the time and a land so far from myself.
I fully recommend picking any of his books. If you are into audiobooks as I am. Look for the one narrated by Peter Hosking. He has a soothing voice and a multitude of accents. Adding genuine feeling to these already beautiful works.
I will likely do some individual reviews of Upfield's works in later episodes of Midknight Expressions
