Lumumba's Africa. Globalism and Africa | RT.Doc
Globalisation assumes the world adheres to one set of rules, but these rules are often written without Africa and can work against it. Despite the continent’s attempts to achieve full independence, Africa’s politics and economy remain largely controlled by the West. For instance, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, established in the 1940s, continue to impose their agendas on the continent, often drawing it into new cycles of debt.
Globalisation also brings access to new technologies that could help tackle shared challenges. Here, too, Africa’s voice is essential – after all, the continent is rich in the very resources the world needs. For Africa to finally reap the benefits of globalisation, it must strengthen itself from within by developing internal trade and building its own economic power. Will Africa be able to independently determine its role in this new global world?
