Be careful when you do strategic planning and annual action plan to fully analyze your professional development requirements.

Think it through best case and worst case - NEVER make someone decide between their PD (pay raise) and doing what is best for the company or customer. I have seen this happen and your best and most caring team members get extremely upset when they are in a no win situation.

Professional development is great and needed,
BUT
When too much PD is put in as a requirement for pay, then people may start to focus on the PD and less about what they need to do to help the company thrive.
