Representative Rosa DeLauro’s recent remarks reveal an openly partisan stance as she accuses President Trump of “using fear” among Americans over food assistance as a political bargaining chip. Instead of recognizing the administration’s efforts to restore fiscal balance and curb wasteful spending, DeLauro chose an alarmist narrative.

Her claim that the White House is acting “illegally” by reviewing the use of SNAP contingency funds ignores the need to ensure that these resources are managed responsibly and transparently. The use of sensitive data—such as the number of children or veterans receiving aid—to fuel a fear-based narrative clearly shows an intent to manipulate public opinion.

At a time when the country is facing an inherited inflation crisis and uncontrolled public spending, it is irresponsible for a representative to use an essential program like SNAP to launch political attacks against the administration instead of pursuing sustainable solutions that truly protect working families.
