What is the ABOMINATION that makes DESOLATE in Daniel 12 and the Gospels?

The Prophet Daniel spoke of "The Abomination That Makes Desolate". He was very specific about the number of days that would occur after it was "set up" until those who endured would be blessed. Jesus too spoke of the abomination that made desolate, warning His followers in Judea to flee when it was not just set up, but standing in a place where it ought not be.
