1 Peter 2: The Christian Life of Separation, Suffering, and Spiritual Growth. (1 of 2)
In 1 Peter 2, J. Vernon McGee explains that suffering in the Christian life produces separation, Christian conduct, and obedience to God. True separation means living by the new nature given at the new birth, laying aside malice, guile, hypocrisy, envy, and slander, and desiring the pure spiritual milk of God's Word for growth. Believers are living stones built into a spiritual house with Christ as the cornerstone, forming a royal priesthood and a chosen generation called to show God's praises. Christians are to live honorable lives, submit to authorities, and endure suffering for doing good, following Christ's example who suffered without sin. Christ's suffering redeems believers from sin, and believers, once lost like sheep, now return to the Shepherd of their souls.
