How Jesus Lived - The Blessed Life

When Jesus sat on the hillside and began to teach, He redefined what it means to be blessed.

📖 Matthew 5:1–6 (CSB)

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the humble, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”

The word blessed — μακάριος (makários), meaning deeply joyful or fully satisfied by God — isn’t about outward success.
It’s the inward joy of a heart made right with Him.

🌿 Poor in spirit — We start blessed when we realize our need for God.
💧 Those who mourn — We’re comforted when we bring our pain and sin to Him.
🌸 The humble — True strength is gentleness under His control.
🔥 Those who hunger for righteousness — The ones who long for God’s truth will never walk away empty.

The world says, “Blessed are the rich, the powerful, the confident.”
But Jesus says, “Blessed are the broken, the surrendered, the hungry — because they’re the ones I can fill.”

📖 Psalm 16:11 (CSB)

“You reveal the path of life to me; in your presence is abundant joy; at your right hand are eternal pleasures.”

💭 Reflection:

Which of these Beatitudes speaks to you most today?

How can you live “poor in spirit” or “hungry for righteousness” this week?

Are you chasing blessing — or walking with the One who gives it?

True blessing isn’t what you hold — it’s who holds you. 💛
