Senator Kennedy - Message to Prime Minister Carney

Senator Kennedy sends a message to Prime Minister Carney to offer President Trump to go to zero tariffs on goods coming from the US to Canada. Senator Kennedy: 'Let's don't have a trade war'.

I dream of a day where politicians will get out of the way and allow free trade. Our business has sold electrical products to Americans for years. The recent tariffs have made selling products to the US so cumbersome that we have stopped selling to the US. We would like that business back, so I am urging the Prime Minister to heed Senator Kennedy's words and remove all tariffs. Let us compete and I know we will hold our own competing with US businesses.

While we're talking about removing trade barriers, I also urge the Prime Minister to end our supply management quotas on milk, eggs, and fish. These quotas are foolish policies that keep prices artificially high. I'm aware of companies here that dump milk and eggs once their quotas are met - same in the fishery. It's immoral to waste food that could feed many people just to keep prices high. These are the kinds of government interventions that hurt consumers and waste resources.

My gut feeling is that there should be no tariffs in any case, and no quotas either. Let the market work.
