Julius A. Fischer, witness for the Defendant in rebuttal, at the Trial of Leo Frank in the Fulton County Superior Court of Atlanta, Georgia, in 1913 (Testimony Portion From July 28 - August 21, 1913; Closing Arguments August 21-25, 1913)
Contractor and builder Julius A. Fischer physically inspected the Selig residence at 68 E. Georgia Avenue. Standing in the kitchen doorway, he could see only one inch of the dining-room sideboard in its mirror. No view of the dining table or of a man seated at it was possible, whether Fischer was sitting or standing. The mirror hung four feet above the floor, fixed vertically.
Fischer adjusted the mirror to every angle; still nothing. He concluded the mirror was too high and too straight to reflect the table area.
On cross-examination, Fischer admitted he did not know the mirror’s exact position on April 26. Even with optimal tilting, he never achieved a clear view.
This hands-on experiment demolished Albert McKnight’s claim that he watched Frank from the kitchen, saw him refuse dinner, pace nervously, and leave after ten minutes. Fischer proved no cook could have seen any of those actions through the mirror—rendering Albert’s entire story physically impossible and shattering the State’s key domestic timeline.
