Peru frees thousands of taricaya turtles to boost population

More than 6,500 hatchlings of taricaya turtles were released into the Calleria River basin and surrounding communities in Peru’s Amazon, in one of the region’s largest participatory conservation efforts. The release took place inside the Sierra del Divisor National Park, aiming to restore populations of the endangered freshwater species.
