🎥 Follow the Science? – The Leaked RKI Protocols and Their Significance for the Post-COVID-19 Analysis in Germany.

In this lecture, independent journalist and cultural anthropologist Aya Velázquez (Berlin) examines the internal protocols of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) that were made public in early 2024.

Using these documents, she paints a detailed picture of how key COVID-19 measures—such as school closures, mandatory mask-wearing and testing, contact restrictions, the 2G rule, the shortening of the recovery period, and the plans for mandatory vaccination—were discussed, prepared, and evaluated within the authorities.

Velázquez explains:

the course of the publication and the journalistic analysis of the RKI protocols,

new insights into decision-making processes during the pandemic,

as well as legal and political questions surrounding the transparency and accountability of state institutions.

For the first time, she will also present emails from the "Working Group on Mandatory Vaccination"—a dataset she obtained after a successful freedom of information request. These documents reveal how far preparations for mandatory vaccination in Germany had already progressed and what internal conflicts existed between ministries.

The lecture offers not only a journalistic analysis but also a critical reflection on science, politics, and public communication in times of crisis.

Aya Velázquez emphasizes the importance of open and transparent investigation and explains why she intends to expand her research to other topics in the future.

A big thank you to Aleksandra Kuznetsova for her expressive piano playing!
Her piece accompanies the lecture as an emotional counterpoint – “Time” is the bridge between remembering and processing.

Because some things simply take time. ⏳
