The Associated Press called the race shortly after polls closed, confirming Mamdani’s victory over former Governor Andrew Cuomo (running as an independent) and Republican Curtis Sliwa.

Zohran Mamdani won the 2025 New York City mayoral election with 50.4% of the vote, defeating former Governor Andrew Cuomo (41.6%) and Republican Curtis Sliwa (7.1%).

Sherrill secured 57% of the vote compared to Ciattarelli’s 42.4%, winning a decisive mandate. A former Navy helicopter pilot and federal prosecutor, she centered her campaign on standing up to President Donald Trump and protecting healthcare and social programs

Abigail Spanberger (Democrat) won the Virginia governor’s race with 57.2% of the vote, defeating Winsome Earle-Sears (Republican), who received 42.6%.
