Instead of drawing inspiration from American figures like Washington or Lincoln, Mamdani praised Nehru—remembered for imposing socialist policies that strangled free enterprise, granting privileges to Islamist factions, and rewriting Hindu laws in the name of secularism.

Critics warn that Mamdani aims to import Nehru’s model into the United States, disguising political power and ideological control under the banner of “progress.”
