WWF Philadelphia Spectrum Nov 22 1985 **please see note**

House shows during November of 1985 were full of intrigue for WWF fans. This show from Philly was no exception, as we get the infamous "phantom submission match" between David Sammartino and erstwhile jobber Ron Shaw. David, son of the legendary Bruno Sammartino, was fed up with his self-perceived lack of a serious push. He chose to fight back with one of the most unprofessional things a wrestler can do: He went into business for himself and changed the finish. Rather than go over Shaw, he "submitted" during a farcical looking bear hug. Commentators Gorilla Monsoon & Dick Graham are caught off guard, and do what they can to explain this fiasco away, but the damage was done. The fans ringside were less than forgiving, as a chant of "BULLSHIT" immediately breaks out. Though he would eventually be rehired, Vince McMahon immediately fired David, and his career never really recovered.
