Emma Beard (colored), witness for the Defendant in rebuttal, at the Trial of Leo Frank in the Fulton County Superior Court of Atlanta, Georgia, in 1913 (Testimony Portion From July 28 - August 21, 1913; Closing Arguments August 21-25, 1913)
Emma Beard, seven-year housekeeper for Herbert Schiff (pencil-factory assistant superintendent), testified that on Saturday, April 26:

10:30 a.m.—A boy’s voice phoned: “Tell Mr. Schiff Mr. Frank wants him at the office.”

Schiff, asleep, said: “I’ll come as soon as I dress.”
Beard relayed the message; Schiff went back to sleep.

11:00 a.m. (clock striking)—Same voice called again: “Mr. Frank needs you at the office.”

Schiff repeated: “As soon as I dress.”
Beard delivered the reply.

Beard confirmed Schiff slept in on Saturdays unless roused, and later told her he was glad she let him sleep that day.
On cross-examination, Beard stood firm:

Seven years in the house; Schiff never rose without her.
No reason given for Frank’s urgency.

Beard’s two timed calls—10:30 and 11:00—proved Frank was actively managing factory business from his office phone, not isolating himself for murder.
The boy’s voice (likely office boy Alonzo Mann) and Schiff’s delayed arrival shredded Conley’s “Frank alone after noon” lie.
