Throughout most of human history, people could only dream of having ready access to all of the world’s knowledge. But upon receiving access to the total breadth of human experience, most people immediately started looking for someone to tell them what to think. In a mass society, experts hold the key to interpreting knowledge and shaping public opinion. We are now watching political actors on both the Left and Right go to war with each other over who gets to occupy that position.
