October saw a record number of layoffs in tech, and AI is being blamed. But is it really? And is AI really capable of replacing almost anyone given where the technology is right now?

I would argue that AI is being used as an excuse to cut people loose and save money, and that competent people will be hired back... eventually.

I would also argue that businesses are being sold in a pig in a poke. Even though AI is pretty impressive, it's also not "show ready" without some human operator.

So is the AI bubble... a lie? Is the technology being overhyped? Are all the fears of robot overlords taking over humanity just fearmongering?
