Calamity by Morna Rowan MacAedyn (Official Music Video)

Our outlaw country ballad Calamity rides through the untamed spirit of the American West, telling the story of Martha Jane Canary also known as Calamity Jane, a woman of grit, heartbreak, and unshakable courage. Through dust, whiskey, and gun smoke, she carved her name into legend, never yielding to a world that tried to tame her.

Our music video features digitally enhanced photographs, period images and AI-generated clips of western imagery, done by Nina Wells, blending myth and memory into our journey across the frontier.

Lyrics:
“She was a woman of no common courage.”

From scouting the plains to the Black Hills she’d came,
With dust in her hair and eyes you could never tame.
Not afraid to care for the sick or bury the slain,
Martha never asked for glory, just shouldered the strain.

Martha Jane Canary, also known as Calamity,
Could always be heard speakin’ Profanity.
She never backed down, full of Audacity,
In the Saloons she was a stranger to Sobriety.
A heart filled with compassion, she avoided Vanity,
Legends like hers were brimming with Charity.
Martha Jane lives on in Memory…

Wild Bill dealt cards in Saloon No. Ten
Aces and eights were drawn, dark days lay ahead.
She’d heard the shot, but did not make it in time.
A .45 cartridge spun across the floor like a dime.

Martha Jane Canary, also known as Calamity,
Could always be heard speakin’ Profanity.
She never backed down, full of Audacity,
At the Saloon she was a stranger to Sobriety.
A heart filled with compassion, she avoided Vanity,
Legends like hers were brimming with Charity.
Martha Jane lives on in our Memory…

Whiskey and sorrow attended her that night,
The loss of Wild Bill under stars cold and bright.
When the dawn broke soft and gray,
Martha Jane Canary saddled up and rode away…

She was a caretaker of the sick, a healer of men,
A cantankerous woman, with Calamity’s grin.
A heart of boundless love for a single man,
She’d never give her heart to another again.
Her legend carried on after that fateful day,
So much that her body, buried next to Bill she’d lay.

Martha Jane Canary, also known as Calamity,
Was always heard speakin’ in Profanity.
She never backed down, full of Audacity,
At the Saloon she was a stranger to Sobriety.
A heart filled with compassion, she avoided Vanity,
Legends like hers were brimming with Charity.
Martha Jane lives on in our Memory…

Calamity, a name they’d called her -
Remembered across the plains.
From tales told in Deadwood and across the grand prairie,
There burned a heart of Compassion -
That will always be known as Calamity…

Martha Jane Canary lives on in Memory…
Known forever as Calamity…
