Vladimir Putin noted that Russia will be forced to take appropriate action if the parties to the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) decide to conduct nuclear tests.

"At the same time, indeed, in my 2023 address to the Federal Assembly, I stated that if the United States or other states party to the relevant treaty (CTBT - ed.) conduct such (nuclear - ed.) tests, Russia will also be required to take appropriate retaliatory measures," the Russian president said.

He ordered information to be collected, an analysis conducted within the Russian Security Council, and proposals to be made on the possible commencement of work on preparing for nuclear weapons tests.

"In this regard, I am instructing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, special services, and relevant civilian agencies to do everything possible to collect additional information on this matter, conduct its analysis within the Security Council, and submit coordinated proposals on the possible commencement of work on preparing for nuclear weapons tests," Vladimir Putin said.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump stated that he had ordered nuclear weapons tests to be conducted "on an equal footing" with other countries that allegedly have relevant programs.
