Frankenstein - The Beautiful Creation of a Mad Man

After dragging Netflix for 2 weeks due to The Witcher Season 4 and The Rats, I have to admit that Frankenstein is a real win for them. Outside of whatever absolute stupidity saw this movie release the Friday AFTER Halloween, I don't have much negative to say about Frankenstein. It largely tells the same 200 year old tale as Mary Shelley's novel, it holds the creature's character true to his literary counterpart, and Guillermo Del Toro's adaptation even managed to weave some new themes into Frankenstein. And what I really liked about this movie was that it didn't beat you over the head with the themes and ideas it wanted you to come away with as the viewer. It was kind of a Choose Your Own Adventure film where you can take the threads of the many themes Frankenstein (2025) introduces and run with whichever ones you feel like. It's a fantastic approach to storytelling and it's a refreshing change from the usual slop we get out of modern movies. Pair that with a wonderfully-fitted visual identity and a great cast and Frankenstein feels ALIIIVE!
