Mushroom bunkers are reinforced concrete fortifications scattered throughout Albania, built during Enver Hoxha's communist regime between 1972 - 1984. They were created as defensive structures in case of invasion, with the most common model, the so-called “fire point,” designed for one or two people. In total, more than 175,000 such bunkers were built throughout the country, and they became a symbol of Enver Hoxha's paranoid security policy, who feared invasion from both the West and the USSR.
