Colorado's Rarest Landscape? The strange & unique "Geneva Creek Iron Fens".

My first trip to the "Geneva Creek Iron Fens" in Clear Creek county, Colorado. This landscape and formation might be Colorado's most rare and unique landscape. It seems Iron Fens are only found within the borders of Colorado (8 separate fens), and not anywhere else on the planet. "Fens" are a type of wetland that is alkaline (different than acidic bogs or swamps). The Iron Fens tend to preserve dead plant material, and the metal rich waters grow around the preserved wood, causing the wood to become fossilized in iron. The Iron Fens also have species of plants and animals unique to these rare and isolated environments, including rare mosses, carnivorous insect eating plants (sundew plants) and rare dragonflies.
