Why are men looked down on over their hobbies?

She screamed at her husband for spending time on his hobbies,, telling him his interests bored her, he needed a social life, and even questioning why she married him. Since then, he’s withdrawn, he’s changed his behaviour, and now she’s terrified of what she’s done.

This isn’t just a fight about LEGO sets or sim-racing gear. It’s about identity, respect, and what it means to feel seen in a relationship. When we ridicule the things that bring someone joy, we don’t just attack hobbies, we attack core parts of who they are. His hobby room was his sanctuary. By dismissing it, she stripped him of a safe space he needed.
