Wash. Commanders Get a Touchdown While Trump’s on Air: ‘Now Your Ratings Have Gone up Because There’s Hope’

Trump: “So we’re doing great just like they have to do great right now.”
ALBERT: “4th & short.”
Trump: “Let’s see what happens.”
ALBERT: “Mariota throws to the edge — touchdown! Deebo Samuel!”
Trump: “See? That was very important. Got a little ways to go yet, but still. That was very important. Now your ratings have gone up because there’s hope.”
ALBERT: “I know you love ratings.”
Trump: “I love ratings. You gotta have ratings. But you guys have the ratings, too. They’re gonna build — by the way, they’re going to build a beautiful stadium, and that’s what I’m involved in, we’re getting all the approvals and everything else. And you have a wonderful owner, Josh and his group, and you’re going to see some very good things.”
ALBERT: “On the site of the former home of the Commanders, RFK Stadium. They had great success there, won five NFC Championship games in that stadium. They played in five and won all five between ‘61 and ‘96.”
Trump: “And you had a great coach, George Allen, if you know. George Allen was fantastic.”
VILMA: “President Trump, they’re going for 2. Did not get it. Did not get it.”
ALBERT: “Through the back of the [inaudible].”
Trump: “You remember — now you’re too young, but George Allen was a good coach.”
ALBERT: “Oh, absolutely.”
Trump: “He was a very good coach. And you had a couple of good coaches.”
ALBERT: “Joe Gibbs, of course.”
Trump: “Joe Gibbs, I mean, how good was Joe Gibbs? He was good no matter what he did, right?”
VILMA: “Yes, he was.”
