Heeding Revelation

Why are we told to "heed the things which are written" in the book of Revelation . . . if most of that book is supposedly not applicable or written to us?
Is it possible that most of it IS written for our benefit and application?
Are we REALLY to be transported out of here in the nick of time by the Rapture escape pod?
