Ethiopia is one of the world’s oldest civilizations, a land where ancient history, deep spirituality, and breathtaking landscapes blend into a culture unlike any other. Its story begins with the Kingdom of Aksum, a powerful empire that flourished between the 1st and 7th centuries CE. Aksum controlled trade routes connecting Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, minting its own coins and developing an early written script. According to Ethiopian tradition, it was also home to the Ark of the Covenant, preserved to this day—so believers say—in a church in Axum. Christianity arrived early as well; in the 4th century, Ethiopia adopted the faith, making it one of the first Christian kingdoms on earth. Throughout the centuries, the country maintained a proud independence, resisting foreign domination while developing a unique cultural identity rooted in faith, tradition, and monarchy.
