RAD BONUS: video overlays 2 copies of the same DUNE dvd recordd the exact same way with different computers and dvd controllers. Oh and one was rendered to 30fps and the other to 60.
The difference in the video's natural brightness, neither of which was preferable for the film, is balanced by an 82% opacity on the darker standard vs the alternative (subtitle only) machine. This in turn produces another effect unobserved until later inn the film when the controllers start to deviate from one another in very small microsecond amounts. And even recorrect. This produces a pseudo acid trip level of almost imaginary tracers just near the end of the film where (motion happens) 'the acid would start kicking in'. The effect is of course all natural and is there to showcase the margin of error on any given recording.

(mixing 30 and 60 is generally the same thing, since most media is running lower than 30, you aren't really interlacing much if at all in a reduction, so it should be safe to say the difference in rendered frame rates has little to do with this effect, this is obvious when a 60 and 30 still produce the same 60 frame pattern, and since you always record in 60fps regardless.))

What is surprising is how little difference there is. You would never notice that you are watching a paired overlay except for the subtitles so that's why, not a defect. Also the effect matches the Dune force fields and bent space and everyone gets phase shifty for the finale Tron meets the force or that thing from Chronicles of Riddick or like Ant Man and Wasp

and with 7 at 8 unswitched (8 at 1 (str8 but 2:38f23 slower)),
AND 8 at 7 (str8 but 4:27f16 faster)

Dvd subtitles are different than captions so dvd version (oh no i'm scared lol) program defends it's position with fun pause taps! and resets! that actually add meta to the position, teach error and function combos, and well this style some people don't like breaklock style it sets you up to be somewhere and then puts hurdles in your way. Programs can deviate but it is a different game when you are defending a line, and it can discourage most people by seeming like a sorta excuse making/ failure denying commitment to a bad position. It takes some time and some worth it struggles in confusing impossible wedges before the average surfer is excited about the Rodney Mullen level function tricks that happen too fast to be real

Tbs, the completed version of hassle programs are a thrill to observe, like someone deftly unlocking a complicated puzzle box. At higher skill level you kinda just do synchro for the annoying kil a pebo puzzles but playback and affirming combo is still the reason for the season so you judge functions by some future result. SO rules matter.

The maximum deviation from the programs natural start line is 8.5 seconds, where the last repeat starts early for the 3rd time, and generally the line is never more than a half second to 2 seconds away from 'natural' even w pause functions and resets, on an otherwise str8 natural line for the first hour and a half.

(consider how lines in close proximity interact i the areas of sameness and distinct difference, for most people the difference in 30/60 is unnoticeable. they would all look 'the same' and irl you would expect some fluctuation in manual start speed.

In a video the difference is literally the difference, we hold to a highest line + moe ideal, regardless of position of change or adjustment. However you perceive synchro it is often like a violinist bow on a string, sometimes it is a foosball rod, and sometimes it is a fully adjustable 17 point articulating arm instead of one line.
Some lines zig and zag like lightning, A line in synchro is always a series of lines, much like space nothing travel through time without experiencing a curvature in it's arrival position it is interesting because the problem persists in playback itself no two experiences really so the same thing, and the entire digital media world will soon have to face the grossness of their systems, like overgrown hedges

machines can ow approach zero tolerance in machining with monofilament metal cutting.
however making such margins in the area of 'time' is just ..all very discouraging.
Most of our processes are jangle bags of cans. And synchro while wanting to fit together like zeroeth level precision metal parts cut underwater, to from pristine glass, the reality is a bit more like woodcutting. Wood grows it shrinks it warps.
it has natural grains. Synchro often approaches stone but only in that the edges always have some dust to them

So when we consider long form, and that our program runs 1:30:00 all natural, with some post edit nuancings that reset.. it's not a dial in situation. To strive for a continuous natural line is to not want to go to the bathroom, so of course functions and breaks in the program form installments, so we think in terms or sections until the prog is completed, then we have licensee to float along. It's like programming a self driving car and then being the passenger. More front end precision, the more back end relaxation.
