Decommodifying housing leads to new serfdom

Everyone seems to be able to agree that these plans suck. Decommodifying housing sounds great, in theory, but pushing people into ownership that requires subsidy or long-term mortgages to be sustained is its own form of serfdom.

While equity is a valuable tool, being locked-in regionally can have some negative second order effects. Making the bank your land-lord in a house you'll never finish paying off is awful, but giving the HR manager that kind of leverage over you is somehow even worse. #homeownership #financialliteracy #middleroadsanity #canceltheculturewar #news
