“I’m a Guest, Not a Citizen”: Lina Seiche’s Reflection on Living in Another Country

Writer and artist Lina Seiche shared an uncommon perspective on immigration and personal responsibility when moving abroad. According to Seiche, those who settle in a new country should do so with humility and a willingness to contribute, not with the expectation of receiving benefits.

“I’ve never moved to a country expecting it to support my lifestyle. I’m a guest, and I can’t expect to have the same rights as citizens,” she said. For her, adapting means effort and respect toward the nation that opens its doors.

Seiche believes that every migrant must “work harder than the locals” to earn their place and make the most of the opportunity they’ve been given. “The country is not responsible for you the same way it is for its citizens,” she added. Her message invites reflection on gratitude, effort, and genuine integration at a time when migration is often debated in terms of rights and responsibilities.
