🚢 APRIL NIGHT - The Titanic Tragedy

April 14-15, 1912. The night the "unsinkable" sank. The RMS Titanic, the largest and most luxurious ocean liner ever built, struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic during its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York. In less than three hours, the ship went down, taking 1,517 souls with it. Only 710 people survived.

🌊 THE STORY:
At 11:40 PM on April 14th, lookout Frederick Fleet spotted the iceberg, but it was too late to avoid it. The collision tore a 300-foot gash in the hull. The ship, considered unsinkable thanks to its watertight compartments, began taking on water. There were only enough lifeboats for 1,178 people out of over 2,200 on board.

At 2:20 AM on April 15th, the Titanic broke in two and sank. The freezing water (around 28°F/-2°C) killed most people in the sea within minutes. The ship Carpathia arrived two hours later to rescue the survivors.

💔 THE TRAGIC FACTS:
- 2,224 people on board, only 710 survived
- Insufficient lifeboats and many left half-empty
- The ship Californian was 12 miles away but didn't respond to distress rockets
- The orchestra continued playing until the very end
- Third-class victims were the most numerous (gates locked to keep them below deck)
- Captain Edward Smith went down with his ship

✨ HEROES AND TRAGEDIES:
- Wallace Hartley and his orchestra played "Nearer My God to Thee" until the end
- Owner Benjamin Guggenheim dressed elegantly saying "We will die like gentlemen"
- Ida Straus refused to leave her husband Isidor: "Where you go, I go"
- Thomas Andrews, the ship's architect, helped passengers until the last moment

🎵 THIS SONG:
A dramatic rock ballad that tells the story of that terrible April night. The moment when human arrogance met the force of nature. A story of heroism, cowardice, love and tragedy that continues to move the world over a century later.
