The Atomic Bombings Justification Hoax

Tales of the American Empire presents a "what if?" in regard to the motivation to drop two atomic bombs on Japan when they were already near collapse. Carlton Meyer describes the US plans to land troops in Japan to finalize that collapse. The favored plan of General MacArthur was "Operation Olympic", a very dangerous and unlikely to succeed attack on the southern island of Kyushu. Despite other more sensible plans, MacArthur held to the one that most likely would have cost the lives of a million or more Americans. Was this the deliberate attempt to get approval for the atomic bomb drops, whereby a million lives are "saved"?
