New Scoop Design Show-Down!

Earlier this year, we built a side-by-side Eddy Current test rig that would allow us to take our wind tunnel miniature turbine designs out in natural wind to conduct load testing. We'd like to stress that these units are under load with our miniature Eddy Current brake system on each unit. Just having something free spinning in a wind tunnel, like many colleges and universities do, is not a valid test. The turbine needs to be under proper load to simulate performance at full scale. That's not an easy feat with miniature models but we've pulled it off in style.

We have these turbines under quite heavy loads for their size. We then calibrate (as best we can) the load of side A to side B. Once that's done we put the 2 different turbines up head to head.

Using this rig outside is a way to triple-check our wind tunnel findings and confirm whether or not the new scoop design we chose should be a significant improvement over our current scoops in our ALPHA rooftop unit. We finally had several really windy days at HTHQ (Harmony Turbines Headquarters), so we took things out for a spin.
