The Off-Road Mini - Mini Moke

Hello there! :D

As the legendary Mini entered widespread circulation in the early 1960s, the car's progenitor, Sir Alec Issigonis, gave thought as to whether this nimble little machine could be converted for off-road and utilitarian applications, and thus began the creation of the Mini Moke, a stripped down, go anywhere variant of the original car that was meant to appeal to the British armed forces.

Sadly, the lack of ground clearance and power in the Moke meant it never found its role in the military, but in civilian circles, especially in remote and inhospitable regions, the car proved to be one of BMC and later British Leyland's most successful and longest running export models, and thanks to a neat mixture of quirkiness and timing, cemented itself a hippie-era icon like the Volkswagen Type 1 minivan, a light-hearted aesthetic that continues to resonate to this day.
