This is Something Nineties | Friday Night Videos Jumps The Shark | A Gabriel Cruz 1995 Video Remix

Those of you hoping I’d dip my foot into the 90s are in luck. I’m starting work on ‘the fives’ of each decade. Part of my aim is to study the changes in sound from decade to decade of different genres.

Because the Nineties brings out my inner music nerd I had to consciously challenge myself to create a good mix out of Top 40 Hits in 1995…something that would have made me gasp in horror at the time but I’m willing to do in 2025 out of a sense of nostalgia, mostly. Which means good or bad…it matters not, it’s in the ‘first’ mix…yes, folks, if all goes well, I’ll have TWO, count ‘em…TWO huge mixes for you tonight. The first one will be for ‘everyone’ who listened to the radio and liked it…or could tolerate…or, in hindsight, like me, feel a sense of nostalgia for hearing old classics once in awhile. I honestly found myself liking songs I hated in the 90s…go figure…though if subjected to hearing them dozens of times daily like back then, I might change my mind but tonight we won’t do that.

Before we start the main mix I’ll do a recap of the last couple weeks…you have some extra time before 1995 begins…then we’ll channel flip like we are in 1995, commercials, movies, all of it.

Mix One is basically pulling all the radio hits from 1995 or what was charting & playing on MTV in the afternoon…lucky for us, the 90s had it’s share of decent radio hits…that’s MIX ONE

Mix Two, saved for later in the evening will be my ‘inner music geek’ curating the year of 1995 carefully to my own personal taste to give me a mix I’d be proud to listen to on my stereo…and could tolerate in repetition. This will be more of an alternative music focus…both things you’ve heard but maybe some bands you haven’t…but it won’t be boring.
