Sudan has witnessed one of its bloodiest weeks in years after El Fasher — the capital of North Darfur and one of the Sudanese army’s last remaining strongholds — fell to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Nathaniel Raymond, executive director of Yale’s Humanitarian Research Lab, and Shayna Lewis, Sudan expert and PAEMA senior adviser, joined Mehdi Hasan on this episode of ‘Mehdi Unfiltered’ to explain the unfolding genocide.

Raymond and Lewis detailed the roles of the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia in fueling — and profiting from — the conflict. They also discussed findings from the Humanitarian Research Lab showing that El Fasher’s population is trapped in a “kill box,” with victims’ blood trails visible from space.

Mehdi’s guests also examined the role of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) in the genocide, and explain how the RSF and SAF are “two sides of the same coin.”
