Bryan Kohberger must pay for slain Idaho students’ urns as part of restitution, judge rules

Bryan Kohberger, convicted of murdering four University of Idaho students in 2022, has been ordered to pay for the urns of two victims, Kaylee Goncalves and Madison Mogen, totaling $3,075.58, as part of his restitution.

Kohberger was sentenced to four consecutive life terms for first-degree murder and 10 years for burglary, and he has additional financial obligations including criminal fines, civil judgments, and restitution to the other victims’ families.

His defense argued he shouldn’t be responsible for the urns due to his life imprisonment limiting his ability to earn money, but the judge ruled the cost falls under funeral expenses already agreed to in the plea deal.

The judge noted that Kohberger has already received donations to cover restitution and could earn funds in prison if needed, NBC News has reported.

On the third anniversary of the killings, tributes poured in from the University of Idaho and Idaho Gov. Brad Little, honoring the victims and expressing support for their families.
