Today I’m showing you how I made these adorable cookie cutter suet cakes using simple ingredients and birdseed.

If you’re new here, this project is part of my Christmas Countdown of Crafts, where I’m sharing easy and inexpensive DIYs made with natural materials. Today’s project is perfect for bird lovers, outdoor decorators, and anyone wanting to add a festive touch to their backyard. Stay with me and I’ll show you exactly how it’s done!

SUPPLIES NEEDED (Makes 2 Suet Cakes):
• ~2 cups birdseed
• ½ cup water (divided)
• 1 tbsp unflavored gelatin
• 1 tbsp corn syrup
• Flour (to thicken)
• Cookie cutters (metal, open on both sides)
• Fruit slices or berries (optional)
• Parchment paper
• Twine or rope
• Straw

PROJECT STEPS:

I’ll walk you through dissolving the gelatin, mixing the seed blend, thickening the mixture, prepping the cookie cutters, and adding optional fruit for color and structure. Then we’ll freeze the shapes, remove them from the cutters, and finish them with twine for hanging. You can also embellish them with pine branches or cranberries for an extra festive look!

They turned out beautifully and I cannot wait for the backyard birds to enjoy this tasty winter treat.
