Terrorism has long been one of Africa’s biggest problems. The groups that have emerged on the continent pursue various goals – religious, political, and economic. However, whatever their stated intentions, it all boils down to brutality and violence against the civilian population. To finance their crimes, terrorists also engage in illegal extraction of natural resources, human trafficking, and illegal migration.

As part of the ‘Agenda 2063’ transformation programme for Africa, the continent’s countries have launched a campaign to combat terrorism. Will this help restore stability to the region?
